The name “Caliz” derives the Latin terms Calix (calyx) und Calx (limestone). Our Chardonnay Caliz grows exclusively on light gravelly soil with a high share of limestone. The yield is reduced to 65 hl per hectare. Its delicate bouquet is reminiscent of ripe pineapple, baby bananas and lime zest. The characteristic opulent Mediterranean fruitiness complements tight acid structure selected lots of Chardonnay higher altitude vineyards. The aging of 6 months on the fine lees in large wooden barrels gives the wine complexity and consistency while the warm influence of southern winds and the cool nights under the limestone cliffs add additional elegant spiciness.
